Why peeka exists

In 2016 I ran a site where people answered questions with photos, then shut it down. Ten years later, peeka is the one I never stopped thinking about.

In 2016 I built a site where people answered questions with photos. It was called resm.in, and its homepage said, in Turkish, that it was "a question and answer platform where questions are answered with photo stories". Someone asked "What's inside your drawer?" and the answers were messy, sincere, a little terrible. About 500 people used it.

The questions were small and everyday. "What are you doing right now?" "What are you eating right now?" "Which shoes did you wear today?" "What's on your phone's screen?" "What's your favorite detail in your neighborhood?" People answered with whatever was in front of them: a glass on a café table, a plate of food, a pair of sneakers on the way somewhere.

Then life happened. I got married, had kids, and could not keep it going alone, so I shut it down.

For ten years I built things people would pay for. Something was missing. peeka is the one I never stopped thinking about: a question comes in, and to answer it you look at your own life again.

The long version is on Reddit: I shut down my 2016 passion project. 10 years later I'm building it again.

What would you answer with a photo today?
